Psychologist

Information

Katerina Houtzioumi, a clinical psychologist, is a graduate of the Department of Psychology at the University of Groningen and of the Master’s Programme in “Clinical Psychology” at the University of Utrecht. Her Master’s degree was focused on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, which is her main clinical approach to psychotherapy. She is knowledgeable in various areas of psychology and possesses a variety of skills necessary for the role of a psychologist. In addition, she has been trained in the new trauma therapy method EMDR by the TACT HELLAS institute.

She has worked in a private center offering individualized psychotherapeutic services and has also volunteered in supporting refugees and people with disabilities in Greece and the Netherlands. In her clinical practice at Roots Wellness Center she participated in the development of individualized treatment programs, conducted psychological assessments, participated in psychotherapy sessions and gained considerable experience in treating patients. In addition, she has worked in a specialty treatment center with children and adolescents with pervasive developmental disorders and has also successfully treated adult cases with anxiety, depressive and eating disorders, among others.

Her primary therapeutic approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and EMDR therapy, which she combines and adapts according to individual needs. However, she continues to expand the methods she uses as she finds that many schools of thought in psychology offer different tools and perspectives to each individualized situation. She now works as a psychotherapist at It’s Complicated and at the child and adolescent psychoeducational center Exevolution.
