Valia Pernidaki studied Psychology at the Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany, and continued her postgraduate studies there in Clinical Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience.

In recent years, she has been conducting a doctoral thesis focused on the psychological difficulties of new parents before and after birth with complications, such as postpartum depression and post-traumatic stress. At the University Clinic for Gynecology in Frankfurt, she supported parents with psychological difficulties and a wide range of medical complications during pregnancy and after birth as a psychologist.

She has worked in the field of diagnosis through the administration of psychometric tools to children and adolescents at the Höchst Clinic and the University Clinic in Frankfurt, Germany.

In Greece, she collaborated with specialized treatment centers and non-governmental organizations, providing psychotherapy to children, unaccompanied minors and women survivors of gender-based violence. During the quarantine period, she staffed the national psychosocial support line 10306, aiming to support mentally burdened individuals who were excluded from mental health services.

She currently works in the National System of Guardianship for Unaccompanied Minors, providing advisory support to the guardians of the children as well as psychological support to the children themselves, who are in accommodation structures in Greece without a guardian. She works privately as well as with the interdisciplinary team at Vima Koino.

The approach she follows is psychodynamic and includes a psychosocial understanding of the difficulties.
